Hello everyone ,

How are you all doing? Feeling frazzled or confident about the Autumn ahead?

Summer was something else wasn't it with those heatwaves? Did any of you manage a mini vacation or staycation?

I'm often surprised how often we don't factor in regular relaxation points throughout the month, and I mean real relaxation not just a quick cuppa and putting your feet up on the sofa. The type of relaxation that leaves you feeling refreshed and recharged almost like you have had a long weekend break.

Anyway I am digressing from the post here today which is around smoothies.

To be honest I never used to get the trend around smoothies. I just thought it was another marketing ploy to part with your cash for this new shiny gadget that seemed to perfectly whizz up all delicious manner of things to help improve your health. Then a few years back my family unfortunately became quite ill from a trip abroad and I needed to find a solution to slowly get them back into tolerating foods again. I looked online and sought out recipes that were healthy, gut friendly and that contained fruits and ingredients that my lot would enjoy.

Fast forward to now, and there isn't a week that doesn't go by when there isn't the distinctive whizz of the smoothie maker going off in our kitchen. I started with oat milk and a banana and a few strawberries then it progressed to adding protein powders, chia seeds, hemp seeds, lecithin and even oats themselves!

What I love about a smoothie is that it is a mini powerhouse of nutrients, minerals, fibres and goodness that can also taste delicious. Mind you I have yet to be converted to the green variety which includes spinach, kale and ginger. Plus you can keep fruits that you harvest or hand pick now in the Summer and freeze them.

I also like smoothies because you can easily blend them before work and take them with you. They can have protein powders added to make a mini meal and fill you up healthily to help reduce the urge to snack.

So here's what I use

Pulsin- Rice or pea protein or lately I have tried their faba bean vanilla version which is totally plant based. Each one has been a delicious addition.

Hemp Seeds- high in fiber, rich in nutrients, health benefits such as improving heart and brain health, reducing stress, and boosting immunity.

Chia Seeds- Great for helping to lower cholesterol, an added boost of fibre and great for your intestinal system.

Oat or Almond Milk- I love the Oatly brand or Rude health for Almond milk.

My favourite blend for the Autumn is Oat milk, one banana, pulsin chocolate powder 2 heaped tablespoons, teaspoon of chia seeds, teaspoon of hemp seeds and a little drizzle of maple syrup. Blitz and enjoy!

Do you have a favourite blend? Let me know yours in the comments below.
